Metagenomic insights into resistome, mobilome and virulome in different fecal waste

  31 August 2024

A study analyzing 753 public metagenomes from human, pig, chicken, and cattle feces found significant differences in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) richness and abundance across fecal types. Tetracycline, multi-metal, and -biocide resistance genes were dominant, with microbial composition having higher correlations with ARGs and BMGs. Gammaproteobacteria were identified as major ARD-hosts, carrying multi-resistance genes. MGEs indirectly impacted ARGs and BMGs. The study offers new insights into understanding and controlling AMR pollution from fecal waste.
